Petrol station owners should accept the business risks

Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs said that petrol station operators who suffered losses due to the reduction of fuel prices should accept them as business risks. He said “There is no business which has no risk. If the Government has decided to review the price of fuel each month, instead of fortnightly, the reduction will have been even more drastic. During the last reduction on Oct 15, the global price of fuel had actually plummeted. If the Government failed to reduce the price of fuel then, this would have meant we did not keep our promise on the fuel review mechanism and deliver its benefits to the people,”
